Weekly Consumer Economy Report (27 April-3 May)

This week both the UK and Germany saw a fall in aggregate spend YoY, representing a slowdown in the gradual recovery seen in April.
UK Digital Goods sector growth has dropped, although the category is still performing well YoY. Discount Stores and Hardware Stores performance eased even further. Fuel and Clothing were both still down YoY although the fall was not as drastic as in the previous several weeks.
Germany “Out of Home” categories such as News Stands, Off-Licences and Grocery all showed gains, whereas the growth in “In Home” categories such as General Merchandise Online, Home Furnishings and Hardware all showed signs of growth slowing.
