UK and Germany Spend Insight Report 05 Dec – 11 Dec 2022

In this week’s report, spend in the UK was flat 0% versus 2021 (YoY) and up 14% versus 2019 (Yo3Y). Spend in Germany was up 9% YoY and up 8% Yo3Y. In the UK, as we head into the peak holiday shopping season, spend declines are being seen across most High St regions relative to last year. In Germany, in contrast to the UK, spend growth is being seen across the High St and in some select categories including Clothing & Apparel, Sporting Goods and Health & Beauty Stores

UK and Germany Spend Insight Report 28 Nov – 04 Dec 2022

In this week’s report, spend in the UK was flat 0% versus 2021 (YoY) and up 10% versus 2019 (Yo3Y). Spend in Germany was up 10% YoY and up 2% Yo3Y. In the UK, Travel spend has picked up ahead of the holiday season. Electronics and Home/Furnishings/Appliances and key food related categories have not shown any major improvements. In Germany, Travel and Public Transport spend growth is above UK levels. Food & Beverage and Grocery/Bakery/Confectionery spending remains consistently higher than last year, continuing the trend seen through H2.

UK and Germany Spend Insight Report 14 Nov – 20 Nov 2022

In this week’s report, spend in the UK was up 1% versus 2021 (YoY) and up 12% versus 2019 (Yo3Y). Spend in Germany was up 8% YoY and up 16% Yo3Y. In the UK, ahead of the Black Friday/ Cyber Monday sales period we are starting to see an uptick in some retail category spending this week with Sporting Goods and Clothing & Apparel leading the way. In Germany, we are seeing average basket sizes track higher which is seeing growth in Sporting Goods, Clothing & Apparel and Health & Beauty stores.

In this week’s report, spend in the UK was up 2% versus 2021 (YoY) and up 13% versus 2019 (Yo3Y). Spend in Germany was up 6% YoY and up 13% Yo3Y. In the UK, Online Retail and High St spend is down YoY. Spend declines are also noticeable across Department and Health & Beauty stores. Growth in service-driven categories such as Entertainment & Leisure is slightly offsetting overall declines. In Germany, Retail spend declines are not as pronounced. Health & Beauty and Department Stores are tracking broadly in line with last year, while Online Retail and High St spend declines are more modest.

In this week’s report, spend in the UK was flat 0% versus 2021 (YoY) and up 9% versus 2019 (Yo3Y). Spend in Germany was up 6% YoY and up 7% Yo3Y. In the UK, many retail goods categories are down YoY, with Clothing & Apparel seeing the largest decline while Fast Food spend is tracking slightly ahead of this time last year. In Germany, retail trends are more mixed, with consistent spend declines being seen in the Clothing & Apparel, Home Furnishings and General Merchandise categories. Fast Food spend is showing strong YoY growth.

In this week’s report, spend in the UK was flat 0% versus 2021 (YoY) and up 9% versus 2019 (Yo3Y). Spend in Germany was up 7% YoY and up 16% Yo3Y. In the UK, Travel related spend remains above last year but growth has slowed through 2022. Retail categories continue to decline, Hardware Stores & Garden Centres have both lower volumes and basket sizes YoY. In Germany, Airline spend is tracking lower YoY while Hotels and Travel & Tourism grow. In contrast to the UK, Hardware Stores & Garden Centre spend is still showing YoY growth.

UK and Germany Spend Insight Report 17 – 23 Oct 2022

In this week’s report, spend in the UK was up 1% versus 2021 (YoY) and up 7% versus 2019 (Yo3Y). Spend in Germany was up 3% YoY and up 15% Yo3Y. In the UK, Travel spend growth has been offset by lower goods related spend. Grocery basket sizes edge higher while Beer & Wine spend is weaker YoY. In Germany, Grocery spend is tracking higher YoY supported by increased transaction volumes and basket sizes. Fuel transaction sizes remain elevated while Food and Beverage spend continues to be higher YoY.

UK and Germany Spend Insight Report 10 – 16 Oct 2022

In this week’s report, spend in the UK was up 2% versus 2021 (YoY) and up 9% versus 2019 (Yo3Y). Spend in Germany was up 2% YoY and up 14% Yo3Y. In the UK, lower spend growth across retail is being offset by Travel and Transport category growth. While spend is higher across Travel and Transport it largely reflects higher prices rather than increasing demand. In Germany, Food & Beverage continues to see consistent growth, particularly in Restaurants. Travel spend across Airlines and Car Rental is tracking broadly in line with last year, while Clothing & Apparel spend growth has dropped further.
